Notice – This connector is designed for Rough Cut lumber NOT nominal lumber (most common). This will only fit a post that measures an actual 6×6″. If you have a nominal post measuring 5-1/2×5-1/2″ you will need an ABA66Z Post base
The Strong-Tie ABA series of adjustable post bases provide a 1″ standoff for the post and are slotted for adjustability. The “R” series of post bases are designed exclusively for use with rough cut lumber. The ABA66RZ adjustable post base is approved to be installed with the specified nails or with Strong-Drive SD connector screws. The Strong-Tie ABA66RZ post base features a G185 ZMAX galvanized finish for added corrosion resistance and requires the use of hot-dip galvanized fasteners which meet the specifications of ASTM A153.
Features:
- The slot in the base enables flexible positioning around the anchor bolt, making precise post placement easier
- The 1″ standoff helps prevent rot at the end of the post and meets code requirements for structural posts installed in basements or exposed to weather or water splash
Installation:
- Use all specified fasteners.
- Post bases do not provide adequate resistance to prevent members from rotating about the base and therefore are not recommended for non top-supported installations (such as fences or unbraced carports).
- Place the base, load transfer plate and nut on the anchor bolt. Loosely tighten the nut.
ABA
- Place the post in the ABA.
- Fasten using nails or SD Screws.
NOTE: The correct fasteners installed in the correct position must be used to achieve published load values
